BRAN CASTLE · TRANSYLVANIA
The castle on the rock, and the road that gets you there.
Bran Castle, Peles Palace, the Brasov old town and the Libearty bear sanctuary — the day trips out of Bucharest, the basecamps in Brasov, and the multi-day loops through Transylvania that take you the long way round.
The Carpathian set
Three reasons travellers come here.
The castle Bram Stoker built a legend around. A royal summer palace fifteen miles north. Europe’s biggest rescued-bear forest forty minutes the other way. Almost every tour on this site is built around one or more of them — plan your day from these three.
On the rock
Bran Castle Itself
The 14th-century fortress perched on a cliff above the Bran pass is the building Bram Stoker built his Dracula on, without ever visiting Romania. Spiral staircases, secret passages, the courtyard well, the rooms Queen Marie kept here when it was a royal residence. Reachable in a day from Bucharest or half a day from Brasov.

In the foothills
Peles Castle in Sinaia
King Carol I's neo-Renaissance summer palace in the Carpathian foothills, finished in 1914, more Bavarian than Romanian. Walnut-panelled libraries, a moving glass ceiling, 160 rooms of European royalty's last hurrah. Almost always paired with Bran on the same day out of Bucharest.

In the forest
Libearty Bear Sanctuary
Europe's largest brown-bear rescue, sixty-nine hectares of oak forest above Zarnesti. Bears rescued from circuses, restaurants, and roadside cages, now living wild within fenced woodland. You walk a viewing platform; they come and go on bear time. Forty minutes from Brasov.

The Transylvania loop
If you only have one day, take this one.
Bran, Peles, Brasov in a single day out of Bucharest is the trip nearly every first-time visitor books. Long day, early start, three real stops, back in town for dinner.

Bran, Peles, Brasov, Rasnov. Different operators, different group sizes, different price points — same iconic four-castle Carpathian loop most first-timers come for.
Plan your day
Where are you starting from?
Bran Castle is twenty miles from Brasov and a hundred and fifty from Bucharest. Where you wake up that morning shapes the whole day — pick the base that fits the trip you’re planning.
By place
Bucharest, Brasov, or somewhere in between.
Bucharest for the airport and the long day trips out. Brasov for the mountain basecamp. Bran for the castle, Peles for the palace, Sinaia for the monastery and the alpine air. Rasnov for the fortress on the ridge.
By experience
Or pick the kind of day you want.
Bran Castle if Dracula brought you here. Peles for the palace day. Brasov Old Town for the medieval walk. Bears in the foothills, fortresses on the ridges, monasteries in the mountains. Multi-day loops if you can spare two or three nights.
The Bucharest day out
Out of Bucharest by eight a.m.
Most travellers fly into Bucharest and book one long day in the mountains. Three day trips that earn the early alarm: castles, valleys, and back to the capital for dinner.
Basecamp in Brasov
The shorter days, from Brasov.
Brasov puts you closer to everything: Bran, Rasnov and the Bear Sanctuary are all under an hour from the old square. We picked the three tours that make Brasov the smarter base if you can stretch the trip to two nights.
Just your group
When you’d rather not share the minibus.
Private vehicle, private guide, your pace, your stops. Three private Dracula-themed tours where the upgrade pays for itself by the second castle.
Stay overnight
Stretch it across two nights.
A single day from Bucharest is a fast in-and-out. Two or three days lets you sleep in the Carpathian foothills and add Sighisoara, the Saxon villages or a Transfagarasan run. These are the multi-day circuits we’d book first.
